London / Paris - How Much Time in Each?

We are planning to book the 21 day RS Best of Europe Tour for next summer. The tour ends in Paris. The tour itself has 2.5 days in Paris. We are planning an additional 7 days at teh end after the tour and will be flying home from London and would like some time in that city as well because it is not part of the 21 day tour. So including the 2.5 days in Paris on tour, we have 9.5 days available to carve up between London and Paris - how should we split up the time?

yes well actually the tour ends right after breakfast so you don't have as much time in paris as you think.. so plan on staying in paris for at least another 3 days then hit London for last 4 days.

I agree with Pat, I would give Paris at least 3 full days after the tour. You can never run out of things to do in Paris and you will still only get a sampling. You need time to linger in the parks (Luxembeourg Gardens my favorite), at cafes, walking and exploring neighborhoods on your own... Then, there are the many wonderful day trips... Even a month isn't long enough.

Thanks Pat and Susan. I think that is great advice...except maybe I should be asking for another month off work to extend my stay......if only! :)

However you decide to split up your days in Paris and London, make hotel reservations well in advance to get the hotel you want. Six months or more are not too early! It's often convenient to stay at the RS hotel after the tour ends. It saves one move to another hotel and losing a couple of hours making the shift. Of course, if you want to experience staying in another part of town, move. I've been looking at hotels for Oct. this year and the ones I am interested in are already full. My very favorite Paris hotel often takes reservations as much as a year in advance. The others may also do this. If you plan to take the train (Eurostar) to London, an early ticket purchase will save big $$. Eurostar.com.

Thanks Swan...I tend to be an early booker of reservations so I will definitely do that. I'm just waiting for RS to publish their 2014 tour schedule so I can book that and then the hotels for the extra week. Should all be booked by the end of August
