Hello all. I am planning a solo trip to Europe in October and would appreciate any suggestions you might have. I know this plan is chock-a-block but I'm hoping it's doable. Any suggestions for how to get to place to place or if this order should be swapped would be great. I've already "done" London and Paris before so am planning on doing primarily some smaller museums, wandering, and eating there. I fly into London and out of Barcelona. I think my main question is, is this itinerary insane? Also, if I am dead set on tackling all of this, what is the most logical way to tackle it? My plan: Day 1: London Day 2: London Day 3: London Day 4: am Eurostar to Paris Day 5: Paris Day 6: Paris Day 7: travel to Amsterdam (afternoon train?) Day 8: Amsterdam Day 9: Amsterdam Day 10: travel to Munich (train or fly?) Day 11: Munich Day 12: Munich Day 13: Munich Day 14: fly to Barcelona Day 15: Barcelona Day 16: Barcelona
Day 17: am in Barcelona, afternoon flight back to the States Thank you again!
Not technically insane, but I wouldn't have much fun doing that trip. You're covering a lot of ground and won't see much but train stations and airports. Plus, you're kind of back tracking by going to Amsterdam and Munich (is there some particular reason to travel to these places?). Why not find something more on-the-way to Barcelona (Southern France) and cut out AMS and MUC? If you've been to London and Paris before, I'm not sure why you're returning if your interest is to focus on other places. I'd also cut time somewhere in favor of Barcelona, there is much to do there and some great side trips (that I wish I had done when there).
The stop that doesn't make much sense logistically is Munich. It is very remote from all the others and you'll have to fly to get there in order to avoid wasting time sitting on trains. I'd recommend places like Brussels, cote d'azur, Avingon or even Bilboa.
Thank you for your help. I will cut Munich from the itinerary and save it for a trip with Berlin, Prague and Poland. Sometimes I forget I can go back. This is just the first time I've been able to take so much time to do a trip so I'm overly excited and ambitious. I'll add those Munich days on to Barcelona and perhaps a side trip to Bruges or southern France.
Do Bruges. It is close to Amsterdam and well worth it. I definitely agree with spending more time in Barcelona and doing side trips from there.
