On the last leg of out journey we will be spending three days in London. Anyone have any 'reasonable' favorite places to stay in London, or have suggestions for what area? It will be my 22 yr. old daughter and I. This will be our first trip there so we will want to do the 'usual' main attractions.
Have you posted this question on the "To The North" board? If yes, good,if not, you will probably get more feed back from folks there. Happy travels
When are you going? All prices in London are kind of on the ridiculous side. The last time I was there (last April) I stayed in two different places. The first was at the Hotel Buckingham near Russell Square (close to the British Museum and walking distance to everywhere). We paid about $225 a night with taxes and that included breakfast. It was a 3-4 star hotel depending on which site you look at, but we were very pleased with it, especially since the breakfast was very substantial and was easily a $40 meal at a restaurant. I just looked at Expedia.com and the prices are about the same - ranging from $165 to $265 USD depending on what day of the week it is.
The other place we stayed was the Crowne Plaza St. James near Buckingham Plaza. It's a 5 star hotel, but they have really good deals there and you might check. We spent about $250 USD a night and it was really, really nice. The rate included breakfast too, but I think it was sort of basic continental (we opted to go to Costa Coffee for breakfast instead).
If money is really an issue, consider staying further out and just buying a 3 day tube card. You can get a substantial discount and the tube is safe and runs late so its an option if you get priced out of central London.
We stayed at the Rhodes Hotel near Paddington Station last November and again in April. Very clean and neat rooms, with updated bathrooms, air conditioning in each room (which we never needed), free wireless, with breakfast included. We took the Heathrow Connect train to Paddington and walked 10 minutes to the hotel. The owners, Chris and Maria, are really friendly and full of information. We wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.
:)
Lisa, my daughter just stayed at the Blades Hotel last week and said it was great. I've stayed at the Arran House Hotel which was very reasonable for London and it was fine - clean rooms with very small bathrooms, and a good breakfast. I would definately stay there again. http://www.arranhotel-london.com/about_us.htm
A few weeks ago we stayed at the Grand Club Quarters at Trafalgar Square. It was 114 GBP a few nights and down to 99 GPB on the weekend, for an averge per night of about 104 GPB for our stay. Literally a 60 second walk to Trafalgar Square and same to Embankment Tube and Charing Cross. It doesn't get much better than that for ease and convenience of travel, restuarants, whatever. Fine hotel, excellent staff, zero complaint.
