Hello, does anyone have a recommendation on a tour company or where best for a day tour to the Loire valley?
There are two venerable tour companies from Paris which have been doing tours for ever. Have been on both and hihly recommend either. The one is Cityrama (or Cityrama paris?), which may have a related company doing the province tours. Cant think of name of other one (probably has "france" in the name). The secret is seeing what chateaux they cover. A nmber of companies do this tour as it is extremely popular
At the train station in Tours there are several options for daytrips throught the Loire valley. Tours makes a great center point for the Loire valley. The tour just covers the transportion, no actual "tour". You have to pay at each chateau, but it does make for a nice van ride and easy access.
If you are taking one of the long day trips leaving from Paris, then Brian's advice is good. We went in 3 chateaux in one day and had a late lunch as well, then the bus drove by 2 others slowly before heading back. The admission was included on the daytour. It's a good contrast to Versailles.
However, if you are already in the Loire then you can easily drive yourself to several. The signage is pretty good and with a GPS it is simple.
