I'm interested in seeing Chateau Amboise and Chateau Chambord from Paris on a day trip. I won't have an auto. Any suggestions on the best way to tour a couple of area of Tours would be appreciated. Should I just take the TGV to Tours and then find a local operator? Bikes? I'm very interested and would love help of seasoned travelers!
Eric, as you may hear, the best way is with a rental car, unless you have alot more time, the chateaus are spread out so biking is better if you have a few days.
Yes, train to Tours or Amboise , then you can look up a local tour operator. Acco Dispo is one I have read about on other forums. I am sure you can just google for tours in Tours, or Amboise also. From Paris the three main bus companies that do daytours there are Cityrama , Parisvisions, and France Torisme. All do 3 in a day. A long and expensive day. I have done the rental car and a few nights in Amboise, great fun, but I have also done a bus tour( I used Cityrama just cause it had a special on the time I took it) and it was fun too. At least you can sleep on the bus. Good luck with your choices. Ps Chenouceau and Cheverny are worth seeing too.
