I am going to Paris for my honeymoon. On the last leg of our trip we'd like to stay 2-3 days in the Loire Valley at a Chateau. Does anyone have suggestions on where to stay? Also, would we have enough time to leave the morning of our flight from Loire Valley to CDG airport, or should we go back to Paris for our last night before we fly out? Thank you!
Kiki,
I am planning a trip to France for April/May 2009. I found a chateau on tripadvisor.com. I am staying in Amboise at the Chateau des Ormeaux. It gets good reviews and has a reasonable rate. Check it out.
It will take you about 2 hours to drive from the Loire Valley to Paris, plus if you are trying to arrive at the airport during morning rush hour, you may need to add more time (it took us more than an hour to get from downtown Paris to CDG for a morning flight - we were trying to be there by 9 am for an 11 am departure). With dropping off your car and catching an international flight I think you may require quite a bit of time and it could make for a rather harrowing morning. You would probably enjoy the trip more without the added stress, so I would advise you to stay in Paris the night before your flight.
I agree with Joanne re getting to CDG from the Loire. I'd spend a lovely day traveling towards Paris and stay near the airport the last night. I know, not very chic but hassle free. Have a wonderful dinner outside of Paris, turn in your rental car, shuttle to your hotel and savor that wonderful bottle of champagne you bought on your travels. Staying in Paris itself just means that whole rush hour traffic hassle on your last morning. So much better to sip cafe and nibble on a crossiant! Best wishes and many years of happiness in your marriage.
I took a day to get to CDG area from Amboise. I stopped off in Chartre and then was routed to the south of Paris and up the east side of the city to Senlis where I had a room for the night. I stayed at the Hostelerie do la Porte Bellon. It was recommended in Rick Steve's 2006 ETBD France. I like the little city and the hotel.
http://www.portebellon.fr/ It was a short drive down to the airport in the AM. I even had time for breakfast. The reviews are still decent. Pam
As Darla indicated Chateau des Ormeaux would be a wonderful choice.
Stayed there for three nights in the Lully Room last July, and it was the Best palce we stayed in France during a 3 week trip.
