Loire Valley Castle Tour

If you had a choice between the following two Castle Tours, which one would you pick? 1. Chenonceau, Amboise and Clos Luce. 2. Chambord, Cheverny, and Blois.
All mentioned in Rick Steves.

Chenonceau is one of my favorites, so I would have to pick the tour its on,, but,, Chambord and Cheverny would be my number 2 and 3s,, so thats a tough one. Can't you find a tour with all three, they are usually lumped together, I know France Tourisme does them together, and Cityrama. I did the Cityrama tour and liked it, but I have also visited Amboise , and Clos Luce independently ,, on a car rental holiday in the area.

They are all lovely and you can't go wrong seeing any of them. Blois seems more different to me since it's surrounded by town. Chenonceau is unique since it spans the river. The dogs of Cheverny are adorable too. Beautiful choices!

Hi, adding my 2 cents in here. We went to 5 of the 6 mentioned above and given a choice of the two itineraries I would pick #1. Chenonceau is the best, and I enjoyed both Amboise and Clos Luce. Clos Luce is great if you're a Leonardo fan. There's a collection of models there that were built using his original drafts/plans, very fascinating (at least I thought so). And the town of Amboise is really nice. Enjoy your tour, which ever one you pick you can't go wrong.

i would follow the suggsetions to look at other tours- cityrama for example and get a "better' selection. My preferences were; Chrnaceaux (interesting location straddling the river, interesting gardens); langeais looks like an old fortifieds castle on the outside); Chambord (big with impressive grounds); Azay Le rideau (small, fairytale castle with spires); Clos Luce is really just a collection of models of Leonardo da Vinci inventions- so is not really a "chateaux);
