Loire valley B & Bs

Looking for recommendations for lovely B&B in the Azay - le -Rideau/Chinon area of Loire Valley AND another recommendation for the eastern side --maybe Amboise or Chenonceau area. We love the historic places --either in town or out. We will have a car. Don't want to spend luxury prices --but not looking for cheap, either. Love ambience and great hosts. Thanks!

Hi - I can heartily recommend Hotel Diderot in Chinon (I loved it so much, an artist friend made an oil painting of it for me) and Au Charme Rabelaisien in Amboise - Sylvie was a wonderful hostess. Both towns were excellent locations for exploring the Loire Valley.

In Onzain, across the river from Chaumont, is the Chateau des Tertres, a nice B&B. You could also look at Logis de France - an association of smaller, usually 2 star - establishments

Maybe a bit of a splurge, but I can heartily recommend a spectacular B&B that we found very convenient for touring the Loire Valley chateaux...Les Moulins de Vontes. It's a coverted mill out in the middle of a river...rowboats available, fantastic hosts, and nothing like going to sleep listening to the gurgling waters outside your windows. One of our more memorable stays...

Le Roserie in Chenonceaux is lovely with friendly hosts, lots of ambience, an excellent restaurant, and you can walk to the chateau. However, it is bigger than a B&B, more of a small inn.
