Loire/Dordogne inJune or September?

Looking to book the Rick Steve's 13 Day Loire to The South of France tour. Which would be better? June or September? I don't mind heat and am thinking that June will have more green fields and flowers, but maybe rain? And September will be dry fields but lots of ripe produce? Any thoughts? Thanks!

I'd go with September. I was in Loire in June and it was quite nice, but I could easily imagine the further south you get the hotter it might be. September would also be good because fewer tourists, and more ripe produce. But then, June is time for strawberries, and the French strawberries have ruined me for any I can get in the US. Ultimately, either will work and you'll have a great time.

Both would be prime times of year to visit these regions. June will be warm at mid day. September will have substantially less daylight. I assume the tours take these differences into account, but I don't know.

If it is late June, you may see the lavender blooming in Provence which would be a highlight for me.

Ah, lavendar and French strawberries would be great. And the longer days in June would be nice. Thanks for your ideas!

We have had some heavy rain in France, including Loire, Dordogne and Paris during two different trips in June. Our last two trips to Paris in September were perfect. As they do have rain in summer, unlike our California weather where it won't really start raining until November, I would imagine that it would still be green although I haven't been to the countryside in September.

Yes, I am hesitant about June because of the rain the last two years. Has anyone seen greenery/flowers in September? Probably pretty dry in Provence by Sept. too.

We had perfect weather this June in Loire Valley, Dordogne, Languedoc, and Luberon. In fact, in 28 days, we had two with light mist; rest were sunshine-lavender, sunflowers, and poppy fields were excellent.

Thanks to all of you! I've decided on June-would love to see lavendar! Got the last seat for my free airline miles flight, so all worked out well. Happy Travels!
