My wife and I are planning a trip to Austria next July and plan on staying 5 days in Hintertux or Finkenberg. We would prefer a place up off the valley floor, i.e., on the side of a mountain. Our first preference is a farmhouse or pension but a small hotel would be nice too. Can anyone recommend such a place?

http://gaestehaus-bergland.at/ We stayed here in May of 2010, renting an apartment. Great views from high up on the side of the mountain. Being May it was off season and we were the only guests. Great breakfast was included, but we did have our own kitchen. Here is a link to our blog and the entry about our stay at Gaestehaus Bergland. I would highly reccommend them. Hi Barry, We stayed at the same place as Dana in Sept. 2009, the Gaestehaus Bergland in Finkenberg. Highly recommend it also. Very nice place, friendly owners/hosts, very good buffet breakfast and some of the best alpine views in Austria. Can't get too much more "on the side of a mountain" than here. Thank you both so much. Gaestehaus Bergland it is. It looks great. I looked at the other links both of you provided and it looks beautiful, as does the Zillertal Hohenstrasse. We originally intended to cycle on much flatter terrain (centered around Fuegen) but opted for this part of the Zillertal instead. We will have to rent e-bikes now!
