We'll be doing an eastern european trip this summer and at the tail end of the trip, we're planning to segue to innsbruck and salzburg from vienna. Any quaint lodging places thereabout? Thanks!
Old and quaint, Innsbruck & Salzburg: For Innsbruck, this one has been housing visitors for 500 years and while it still feels like an old inn, its been newly renovated: www.weisseskreuz.at; and here's something for Salzburg: www.hotel-ami.de/hotel/chiemsee
Hi,
While not in Innsbruck, we've stayed three times at Gasthof Badl in Hall in Tirol (in Rick Steves' book). It's just 6 miles east of Innsbruck. Nice rooms (ask for a balcony!), gorgeous Alp views, good buffet breakfast, very nice and reasonable restaurant plus it's only a 5 min. walk to the beautiful old town of Hall in Tirol. Oh, the hosts/owners, Frau Steiner and daughter Sonja, are simply the nicest people you'll find anywhere. It's also very easy to reach by car or train.

I have stayed several times at the Gartenhotel Tuemmlerhof in Seefeld Austria near Innsbruck. The accomodations are wonderful, the food good the spa was great too.
If you are willing to splurge a bit, consider the Goldener Hirsch in Salzburg. We just returned from a stay there to celebrate our 30th anniversary. It is in Old Town in several very old buildings. Parts of it are over 400 years old. Our room was very spacious and beautiful. We were treated so very well! It is well worth a splurge!!!!!!
Thanks all for your inputs. I will look them up online and compare. Ciao!
In Salzburg, I enjoy staying at Institute San Sebastian. It's essentially a clean and quiet hostel. We were traveling as a family of five and they gave us two rooms and bathroom behind one common door. Unfortunately all single beds.
For a hotel option in Salzburg, the hotel Altstadt is right in the middle of the walking/shopping area.
I liked Hall better than Innsbruck, so the suggestion for a place there may be a good idea.
