Lodging options in Wengen

I will be in Wengen late July 2014, any ideas for comfortable 3 or 4 star level lodging. I will be with my wife and adult daughter, so need two rooms. Ideas, recommendations?

The only place I've staid in Wengen is the Silberhorn, a 4-star right across the street from the train station. Very nice, comfortable hotel with a very convenient location. It is an old hotel that has been much modernized over the years. A nice 3-star, a bit of a walk from the train station is the Belevedere (same ownership/management as the Silberhorn). This hotel has retained its historic appearance and public areas, while the rooms have been updated.

You do realize that stars are based on services offered, and do no relate to quality?

We like the Baeren, which I believe is two stars. It is not a full- service hotel, more like a great restaurant with rooms upstairs. The rooms are new, modern, and simple/plain, with balconies and gorgeous views. The restaurant serves the bet meals we have enjoyed in Switzerland, mostly from fresh local ingredients. For example, at breakfast, there were two kinds of butter: one from the store, and another from a nearby farm, it had never seen a package. Guess which one was tastier?

Check the prices and see if you want to pay for two rooms at a four-star place. I would not want to, we were very happy at the Baeren.

We stayed at the Hotel Baren in June and loved it. The room was just as pictured on the website and the food was outstanding. I would stay here again without hesitation. Be sure to ask for a room with a balcony or the third floor suite.

We had a very nice stay at Hotel Belvedere. It is a bit of a hike up the hill but the room was very nice, owner is friendly and helpful.

No matter where you decide to stay, you should at least have dinner at Baeren. Traditional Swiss meals prepared beautifully. I remember the Chamois being particularly delicious.

The walk back up to the Belvedere will wear off some of the meal.

Have you considered renting an apartment ? We rented an apartment in Lauterbrunnen for about the same as a hotel. By cooking a few meals, we saved money plus had room to spread out. Switzerland has many vacation rentals that are very nice. If you just google 'vacation rentals Wengen Switzerland' you will find many.
