Two of us taking a trip this winter starting in Vienna, to Salzburg, to venice to Florence and the CT. Don't have specific dates in each city, but the trip goes from 12/29-1/9. Lodging suggestions per city? our budget is about 100/night give or take...want a little romance if possible ;)

your budget will be difficult in those major high price cities. And romantic location yes but prob not a lodging choice. Good thing is you are off season so no air cond saves euros but you are going during holiday season, a bad thing and more costly. I would book now for what you can find and use Ricks guidebooks.

We loved the Austrotel in Salzburg. Wonderful room, fantastic breakfast, good location, terrific service. Worth every Euro.
I think Vienna may have one as well. However, I don't know if the service and amenities are the same.

We stayed at the Weisse Taube right off of Mozartsplatz. It was 98 Euro (that was this month which I think is peak season), but luckily before I paid, I found that with my Rick Steve's book, we got 10% off. It was within walking distance to all the old town sites. The only time we took public transportation was to/from the train station. Actually a decent sized room (for Europe) and the breakfast was very good. You choose whatever you want and they serve you instead of the usual buffet. We especially liked the Irish Pub that was right down the street!
