Thanks for all the input for Munich and Salzburg. We are now looking for a place in Vienna. We are travelling with 2 kids -ages 8 and 12.
Please provide some more details - what price range? One room or two?
If price is no object, I would recommend the Bristol - great hotel, right across from the Opera House or the Imperial.
I have also stayed at the Marriott - this was one of the few western chain hotels that would accomodate 4 in a room.
Hi,
Myself, my wife and my father stayed in Vienna for 2 nights this past September at the Meininger Hostel. It was very nice and clean, I think it just opened this year, the decor is Ikea like, so very clean and simple, and the price is very reasonable, we paid $246 Canadian total for 2 nights. They do have rooms with private bathrooms, that's what we had.
If you look at a map it looks a bit outside the city centre, and it is, but their transit system is fantastic, there is a station less than a minute walk away, and you just take the U1 straight into the centre, it only takes about 10 minutes and you're set!
Vienna is very nice and if you like zoos, as we do, the Schonnbrunn Zoo is very easy to get to and it's fascinating.
Also, I see you're going to Salzburg, I gather you're already set for accomodations there, but the recommendation I would have is the Hotel Lilienhof. Again, no frills really, but clean, reasonable priced and easy to get to. And Salzburg is wonderful too.
Enjoy tour trip.
We really enjoyed the Pension Nossek...Both Frau Bernad and Frau Gundolf were very nice and thought the world of Mr. Steves. We were there in 2006. The location is also great. The price in the 2008 RS guide
is E115 for a double which has probably gone up a bit by now.
