Does anyone have a recommendation for a place to stay in Nice? We're arriving late in the day and leaving early the next en route to Italy. Something near the rail would be best. Thanks for any help.

Rick has 5 in his book. If you don't use his book, be careful, most hotels near the station are over-priced and loud. And you want one with AC.

Last fall we stayed at the Hotel Excelsior-listed in Rick's book and 1/2 block from the train station.
good value, confortable rooms and easy walking to all the sites.

I was in Nice last year and we had a reservation at a hotel that turned out to be under construction with scaffolding surrounding the hotel on all sides. We walked toward the beach and found a Best Western Les Fleurs and it was wonderful and reasonably priced. It is only about 6 blocks from the train station and surrounded by restaurants and shops. Be sure to take the train to Ville Franche just 15 minutes away. I promise you will be glad you did!
