Lodging in Munich

i'm staying in Munich a few nights. There will be 2 adults and 1 teenager. Distance isn't too big of an issue for me, because we are renting a car. Does anyone have the name of a good hotel near there that will house three? Also, I am looking for some sights/ activites to go see and do.

Hotel Uhland has a very nice triple room, and I believe they offer free parking. You can walk from there to most of central Munich.

Try Hotel Ludwig opposite the train station. Interests vary. It's difficult to comment on sightseeing destinations. Purchase a few guide books. I utilize: Frommers; Steves; DK, and Lonely Planet. Each will give you a different perspective on the same sights.

You may want to consider staying a little outside Munich and taking the SBahn or the UBahn downtown, as finding a place to park may be a problem or the cost may be high when you stay in town. Driving downtown Munich isn't very fun, lots of traffic and the one-way streets make it difficult. There is a great place in Eichenau--the Villa Eichenau. You can take the S8 towards Geltendorf and get off in Eichenau. Its about 20 minutes outside Munich. Things to see downtown are Marienplatz, Frauenkirke, the Englisher Garden, Deutches Museum, Nyphenburg Palace, Hofbrauhaus, Viktulienmarkt, St Peter, Olympic Park, BMW Museum to name a few. By car, a short distace away is Andechs Monestary and if you want to go a little further, Neuschwanstein. Dachau Concentration Camp, a very sobering place is just outside Munich, more of a suburb(a short drive, or you can take the S2. The actual town of Dachau is very charming.

We stayed at Hotel Uhland for 3 nights in June of 2002 and it was very nice. Had a car but just walked to the city center and used the subway.
We drove to Dachau concentration camp not too far outside of Munich. A visit here is sobering but if you haven't been to a c. camp it is a must see. We took one of the English speaking tours and our guide was very good. Our boys at the time had just finished 5th and 9th grades. They enjoyed the BMW museum, which is near Olympic Park.We also went to the Deutches Museum. This place is huge and was a good place to spent part of a rainy day. The English Park is very nice and has a huge beer garden. Lots of people with families. One day we drove part of the Romantic Road to Rothenburg stopping at Dinkelsbuhl (this place is so cute with a moat, gates, towers and a wall around the town). Rothenburg is lovely and you can walk the wall here. On our 2nd visit to Rothenburg in 2004 we visited the Medieval Crime and Punishment Museum. Enjoy!
