Do you have recommendations for places to stay in Milan and Innsbruck? We'll be there in May.
How long and what budget? For us, we stayed in the Ibis in Milan, about a 15 min. walk to/from the train station. Nice hotel but charged for wifi, a downer for me. Room was great and had A/C. Paid around 60 Euro per night. Breakfast was an additional 7E and was decent. Juice, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, cold milk, cheese, jelly, breads, fresh fruits, etc. Have not been to Innsbruk.
We'll be staying for three days in each city and traveling by train so being close to the train station is a plus.
Check the prices at the Hotel Berna, a nice family owned hotel a long block away from the main train station in Milan. Stayed there in Dec and had a "comfort room" ( least expensive), free wifi, inside rooms quiet, great staff. Secured parking if you need it. Their rates vary with conventions, but very clean, great breakfast and online specials at times. Several RS apporved hotels in the same area which are less expensive when we were there than those hotels near the Duomo.
In Innsbruck, the basic hotels are good since it's an industrial town. Ibis, Novotel, etc. Also try Best Westerns. Americans laugh, but in Europe they're independently owned and often in historic buildings in good parts of town.
UNA Hotel in Milan. Walking distance from train station. Lovely breakfast. Large room and bathroom. Quiet.
We paid $105 euro which included breakfast. And don't forget to go see the Duomo.
Thanks everyone for the replies. I appreciate the wealth of information here and your willingness to share it.
