Lodging in Loire Valley this August

Yikes! Everything is booked. We need 3 rooms for 3 nights in August - one room for mother, father & teen age son, one room for a couple and one room for a single adult. Amboise is our first choice, but we are very flexible. We are driving; have a van. We do have a reservation at Hotel le Blason-but they will not guarantee us the air conditioned rooms and some in our group are insisting on having a/c (they were in Europe during the last heat wave). Has anyone stayed at Domaine de L'Arbrelle near Amboise? Thank you for any help you can give us.

We stayed here last summer: Auberge de la Treille 2, rue d'Amboise, 37270 ST MARTIN LE BEAU (FRANCE) +33 (0) 2.47.50.67.17 It was perfectly nice, not over the top but very pleasant. The restaurant in the hotel however is a big draw, highly regarded. Might even have a Michelin star or two, I don't remember. Sadly, we weren't hungry enough to have a big French meal. It was a very short drive to Chenonceau, where we went for the evening light and music garden tour and wandered around for serveral hours. Very nice, much better than the crowds the next morning when we went back for the chateau tour itself. We had a two bedroom suite (4 people) with a very good breakfast for €100 You might also like this website: http://www.logishotels.com/en/discover-the-logis/our-philosophy.html It represents many independent smaller hotels and B&Bs in Europe. A European friend told me about it, and it is a great way to avoid chain hotels. I used this site for my booking.

Nelly, thank you for your great information. We got a lucky break this morning. Hotel La Roseraie in Chenonceaux can accomodate our group all 3 nights. The Domaine de L'Arbrelle in the forest outside of Amboise can take us also, but they want a payment of almost 100 % now to make the reservation. And we do have the rooms at Hotel le Blason which is right in the town of Amboise, but will not guarantee the air conditioned rooms. So now I must make a decision: change location and stay in Chenonceaux at La Roseraie or pay a bunch of money now and stay outside of Amboise at L'Arbrelle-which I don't know anything about or take a risk with the a/c rooms at Le Blason and be right in Amboise. I would love help making the decision if anyone wants to comment.
Thanks.

The hotel in Chananceaux has had good reviews and the location is very convenient. We stayed at La bon Laboruer at Chananceaux and enjoyed it and the chateau immensely. Nice area. i believe you can walk to the chateau from your hotel. I would be very happy there

I don't know if this will help or not... we've stayed in Amboise twice and like it very much. BUT, if I ever get to go back, I would like to stay at La Roseraie in Chenonceaux. I've heard so many good things about it on the Helpline and the chateau de Chenonceau is my favorite chateau of all. I would love to experience staying next to it in a charming village. The decision comes down to... do you want to be in a very small, quaint village next to an amazing chateau, or, stay in a charming little town where you can walk to many places (chateau d'Amboise, Leonardo di Vinci's house, for example), shops, and restaurants. You can't go wrong either way, and you will love the Loire Valley!

Susan, thank you. You are right; it has a win-win outcome. The last time I was in the Loire Valley was 1972 with my mother and we stayed in Blois. Chateau Chenonceau was our favorite castle. I am thrilled to be returning and think La Roseraie will be our destination. Thank you for your ideas and good wishes.

We stayed at Hotel La Roseraie in 2009 and highly recommend it. Free parking and a short walk to the Chateau. A delightful staff and if you can you should eat an evening meal in their restaurant. You will need to make reservations for dining since it is popular with the locals and the dining area has limited seating. It was by far our best meal during that trip.
