Any suggestions for hotel near train station in Karlsruhe?
I plan to use Karlsruhe as a base for at least three day trips rather than dragging luggage on and off the train every day.

No hotel tips for you, haven't stayed there in ages, but notice there's an Ibis near the station. Karlsruhe is particularly advantageous for daytrips as it's a "border" town for Länder Tickets, the cheap daypasses good on regional trains in Germany. From Karlsruhe, two you can tour two separate states - use a Rheinland-Pfalz Ticket to explore that state (to the north, ticket includes Saarland too) and use a Baden-Württemberg Ticket for B-W (to the south.)
