Lodging in Dijon/Beaune

Hello! This forum has already been so helpful, I hope I can get some advice!

I will be traveling to Burgundy the end of May 2010 with my family (2 adults, 3 children). Because it is the first leg of a long trip, I am hoping to find a place that is (a) reasonable in price (b) has a washer to renew our clothes from traveling (c) possible to park our rental car. Does anyone have any suggestions for such a place (hotel, vacation rental, B and B) in Dijon or Beaune? My days of scouring the internet have proved fruitless. Any leads, links, suggestions, or ideas would be so welcome.

Parking is not a problem in Beaune, even smack-dab on the town square. I suspect the hoards show up on dirgibles or something, even in late may, you might miss them.

The Accor chain must have eight or ten hotels in Beaune, all much cheaper than the link above. All are clean and safe, the least expensive two types are spartan and without ambiance and Formule1 has only a sink in the room. Accorhotels.com.

There's a self-serve laundry halfway between the little ring road and the railroad line . The street is Rue du (something) Saint Jean and comes off the ringroad to the east.

Beaune's okay, but I wouldn't camp out there. If the stop is for more than a night or two, make it Dijon. Accor has a bunch of hotels there as well, and the place is big eough that I'm sure there are several laundromats.

Someone who posts here from time to time has an apartment in Dijon that she rents. Since May is very soon indeed, it is unlikely it will be available but who knows? www.myhomeindijon.com Her name is Coco & you can always ask her for suggestions if her place is booked.

We were going to stop in Beaunne in May before I changed our itinerary, but I found a nice hotel that had a suite that would sleep 3 adults and 2 kids...reasonable, three star, parking, etc. Hotel de la Paix in Beaunne.

For parking in Dijon, there is a large centrally located underground garage. For some hotels (like the one where I stayed, I forget the name), parking is complementary. The center of town is pretty compact (and tough to navigate by car), so you won't have to walk far.

Slowtrav.com is another great resource for info. They have a list of apartments for rent and rental agencies in Burgundy, and specifically in Beaune and Dijon, with reviews written by slow trav readers.

I stayed in Beaune the the Hotel Henry V or some such...about 1/2 block outside one of the city gates. It was a member of the Best Western Chain...very clean, good location, and there was parking available as well. This was in 2006 I think.

Stayed at Hotel de la Paix in 2006....... functional hotel, nothing fancy, but pas de problemme......

Around the corner is Auberge de Bourgonge........... dinner there is VERY nice.....

A little pricey, but the experience was worth it, VERY formal French dining room with excellent food and ambiance, the cheese plate after a wonderful dinner was to die for..........

Hotel de la Paix - functional, used to RS travellers, comparatively inexpensive........ Parking in Beaune is easy.............

Easy to meet new people at the different wine stores in town, we met a couple and had dinner at another place our second night - I forget the name, but the food and ambiance was nice, communal tables, good food and wine.....

..... everything that one goes to Beaune for.......... but with children in tow, Dijon might be more convenient as it pertains to self-serve laundromats........
