Lodging - Hotel or rent an apt?

I've looking at various sites and I've seen short-term apt. rentals (studios, etc.) that seem less expensive than hotels. Any advice on inexpensive lodging for 1-2 nights in various Spanish cities?

I have had great success in using hostals in Salamanca, Madrid, Toledo, and will be in one in Sevilla in a few weeks. Clean, good locations, reasonable rates. Easy to get a room with a private bath ~ some offer a breakfast, some do not. Have also used an apartment in Madrid on two times. Good rates, more space of course, and good locations as well. Check out www.madridman.com site for more possibilities.

I have used vrbo.com and homeaway.com for apartment rentals in Europe and in the U.S. I am in Verona right now, in an apartment I rented for 2 nights. I suspect that may be the minimum time for an apartment, and many may require more nights. Good luck!

The advantage of an apartment to me is that I can make tea or coffee anytime I need it. We also enjoy going back and relaxing for an hour or so in between sightseeing. I am not one for doing my own cooking on vacation, but a quick and easy snack of fish and chips or pasty works. Cant do that in a B&B

If you can manage to rent apartments, it is a wonderful way to stay in Europe. We have been renting apartments most of the time for several years and it is so much cheaper and relaxing. You can buy breakfast and other food items so you don't have to eat out all the time. I would never go back to using hotels when I can rent. We are renting an apartment in Seville next month from Sevilla5. They have a great variety but 3 nights might be the minimum. I would definitely recommend you check out apartments. I usually start by googling 'vacation rentals' and the town where we want to rent.

Apartments all the time for us - other than for a single night stay close to an airport for example. We have stayed in apartments and cottages in UK and in several different cities in Spain - in Seville we have used sevilla5 several times and they are excellent. We have rented apartments twice in Granada and once in Barcelona. We do it more out of preference although it does save money. We just do not like hotels - lack of space, lack of privacy etc.

I have used VRBO.com to rent condos with good success. Last Feb, we rented a 3bd/2ba condo for 10 nights in Nice, France and loved it!!
