We are a party of 4 traveling by car thru Normandy and the Loire. We want to stay our last night in the Versailles area and also drop a rental car before going into Paris. Any suggestions on places to stay? Also location and type of car rental in the area? We have looked at both Hertz and Avis car rentals so far. Thanks

If you want a splurge and to end your stay on an extravagant note, I highly recommend the Trianon Palace Versailles. Be sure to get a room in the main building. You can occassionally get package deals on this hotel (breakfast included) that make it less than extravagant and merely pricey. Who are you renting the car from? You will need to look at their website to find where the nearest rental office is to return the car.

We haven't booked the car yet as not sure where the closest location is to Versailles. Because we are spending a couple of weeks in France we are trying to do more budget hotels.

I second Dina's recommendation for the Trianon Palace hotel. It butts up against the Versailles grounds, and there is a gate into the grounds near the hotel. It definitely is a splurge though.
