I'm trying to decide between the Hotel du Pantheon (19 place du Pantheon) and the Hotel Lyon-Mulhouse (8 blvd Beaumarchais) for a half a week in Paris in August with my boyfriend. We are in our 20s, so we are most interested in a nice hotel that is in a lively area, with lots of cafes, nightlife, and walking distance to places like Notre Dame and the Seine. We were able to find the Hotel du Pantheon for 92 Euros a night for their standard double room (no Pantheon view for the standard room). We also were able to find a double room at the Hotel Lyon-Mulhouse, which has 1.5 bathrooms with tub and faces the back of the hotel so there's no street noise, for 80 Euros a night. The Hotel du Pantheon is right next to the Pantheon (close to Latin Quarter) and the Hotel Lyon-Mulhouse is about 2 blocks directly north of the place de la Bastille (close to Marais). Can anyone suggest which would be best, taking into consideration how nice/romantic the hotel is as well as the location for a couple in their 20s? How far walking distance would these hotels be from the sights and cafes?
Let me rephrase...with the differences between the Right Bank and the Left Bank, what do the areas of the Bastille and Latin Quarter look like and how do they differ? Is the Pantheon area that much more picturesque than the Bastille/Marais? How plentiful are the cafes and bars in these areas?
I'm more interested in learning about the locations of these than the hotels itself.
My vote would go to the Marais & Bastille. They are centers of night life. The architecture in the Marais most closely resembles medieval Paris.
