Local, not over the top, but must visit restaurants in Paris

Hi Folks,
I need your recommendations for restaurants to eat in Paris, local ones are even better as we are taking our child too. We are not looking for expensive, over the top gastronomical experiences. Believe me, I've copied pasted some restaurants from your posts that I liked. But I need more. We are staying in the Latin Quarter, but any arrondissement recommendation that will show us the real Paris would be great! Thanks.

Holy cow! You're right there. Walk over to Rue Mouffetard and take your pick. There are so many places there you couldn't wear it out in a month.

We were there last year (with kids!) and we rarely had a bad experience. We were in a neighborhood that had a couple of great little local restaurants that we ate at - usualy the menu of the day (they usually have a kids plate as well - plat des enfants) if they aren't feeling adventurous. I don't know how old your child is but there is a chain there called Hippopotamus that our kids LOVED. A chain restaurant to them but still amazing food - the steak was delicious and they really catered to the kids.

Also, on a different note - not sure how long you're in Paris but we took our kids to Aquaboulevard which is a huge outdoor/indoor waterpark and it was fabulous. Not cheap, but really fun. I know they have a website if you're interested... enjoy!

Thanks so much. This helps. BTW, I am wondering if we should carry both the stroller and the Kelty backpack since we are also travelling to Rome and Venice. Do you have suggestions on we should carry both or just one of them? Which one?

Try Polidor at 41, rue Monsieur Le Prince in the 6th. It's an old fashion inexpensive Paris restaurant.

Sonia:

Check out the blog of David Lebovitz (just google him). He is an American ex-pat living in Paris. He is a wonderful (and humorous) writer. He has gobs of Paris restaurant recommendations from street food to corner bistros to haute cuisine.

But be careful - his blog is very addctive!

Have fun.

Jon beat me to it. I was also going to suggest checking out David's blog. He has some great posts including "My Paris", where he lists his favourite restaurants, most seem resonably priced. Sunday Dining in Paris, which lists some good spots that are open on Sundays and "10 Insanely Delicious Things You Shouldn't Miss in Paris"

We bought a Zagat guide for Paris for our last trip. It costs about $10 and we didn't have a bad meal. They review food and give you an idea of price. The best meal we had in Paris was at a restaurant called Bascou in the 3rd near Arts & Metiers. It's basque (sort of) food prepared by a master chef. Outstanding, and the bill was about 100E for 4 of us.
