Hello out there! My husband and I are first time international travellers to Lisbon /Spain / Morocco and I'm interested in finding out information on cheap hotels in Lisbon, non- touristy things to do and fantastic food. Any ideas/suggestions are much appreciated. Thanks,
cristi
my favorite semi-budget hotel in lisbon is residencial florescente. great location and friendly staff. as for food in lisbon...seafood is supposed to be exceptional. i don't eat seafood but people always rave about it there. and the little custard tarts...i think pasteis de belem or something like that...are sooooooooooo good. and drink some of the vinho verde (green wine). very light and refreshing. as for non-touristy things.........i don't know really. i mean everything i have done and like is probably in some guidebook. i think a day trip to sintra is a must do. defintely while there walk the moorish castle and see pena palace and quinta regaliera. in lisbon...ride the tram around, wander through bairro alto (day and night. both very good for different reasons!). i love the convento de carmo. and sao vicente de fora (sp??)is nice to wander around, the courtyard is peaceful and great views of lisbon and river from the rooftop. and if possible do a 1/2 day trip to cascais. the train ride is only like 30 min and right along the water and is really pretty.
