Just wondering if anyone has travelled to Lisbon recently. We are trying to decide which hotel to stay at for 5 nights. We don't want to be in a neighbour where there is noise at night. Thank you. Pat
We have stayed at the Hotel Residencial Florescente many times and most recently in April 2012 for 9 nights. You can check it on booking.com or tripadvisor.com. It is on a pedestrian street within walking distance to many sites and to metro and train. We have enjoyed our stays there. If you do stay there you might want to ask for a back room as the street side may have some noise.
I just got back from Lisbon last week. I stayed at a hostel so I can't comment on hotels, but in general, stay in the eastern part of the city center, as I heard from my hostel host that the western part has lots of parties at night.
On my last trip to Lisbon (3 years ago), I stayed a few nights at the Real Palacio, which is on the east side of Eduardo VII park. I have to admit the beds weren't very comfortable, but the neighbourhood was great quiet in the evenings, but close enough to the park, a couple of metro stations, restaurants and shops to be handy. It was picturesque and friendly - I loved the neighbourhood to stay in, even though I don't necessarily recommend that hotel (other than the beds, it was nice, but that's a deal breaker for me). You can use the map function on various booking sites to find other hotels in that neighbourhood that will fit your budget.
