We are heading to Spain in February 2010 for 9 days. We are going to Madrid and Barcelona for sure, but we can not decide if we want to head to Lisbon, Portugal for a couple of days, or to Seville and Granada. I am leaning toward Seville and Granada, but I wanted to get some suggestions. Thank you.
I am possibly biased as I live in Spain and have spent wonderful weeks in both Seville and Granada, whereas only a couple of days in Lisbon.
For me there is no comparison - I love both the spanish cities and didn't much like Lisbon but I know others do.
Trying to see Madrid, Barcelona, Seville and Granada in 9 days will be rather rushed.
Skip Lisbon. Seville and Granda are much better.
I have never been to Lisbon, but last summer we went to Seville and Granada. I would suggest you go to Seville, it's easy to get to and there's so much to see. I'd stay in the old Jewish quarter and definitely go to the Alcazar and the Cathedral where Christopher Columbus' remains are interred. All within walking distance .A beautiful place indeed.
Lisbon is worth a visit but I agree with others and would chose Granada and Seville--Granada is one of my favorite cities in Spain!
Lisbon has a lot to do and see including a fake castle on a hill but it bit difficult (other than flying) to get to and with a short trip I would focus on Seville and Granada. And a long afternoon in Cordoba on the way to Seville is worth it. Nine days is not a lot of time. We did ten days last New Years -- Madrid, Cordoba, Seville, Granada -- and we thought that was a rushed trip without throwing in Barcelona and that travel time. Save Lisbon for another trip. See the posting below, Spain in October, for more discussion on the same subject.
Handsdown Seville and Granada if only to see the Alhambra in Granada.

Side trip to Cordoba to see the Mezquita might be worth considering.
Having been to Lisbon, Seville, and Granada during my last trip, I would recommend just keeping it in Spain. The effort required to get over the Lisbon for a single-city side trip isn't worth it.
Instead plan a separate Portugal trip and be sure to visit Porto and some of the areas to the north (Duoro valley is where I want to go next).
Granada is amazing ... fun city, good food, good drinks, and the Alhambra.
Wasn't in love with Seville on my visit earlier this year, but still a nice place.
Lisbon is a lot of fun. A great city if you just like to wander from neighborhood to neighborhood. Beautiful architecture, great food, and some wonderful, inexpensive places to stay. Also, Portugal is at least 15% cheaper than Spain (in my experience), something worth considering when 1euro = $1.49.
I vote with those above who would keep the trip in Spain.
Seville is tops with the surrounding Arcos de la Frontera also. That doesn't mean that Lisbon is not a good visit (transit to Lis is expensive and takes valuable travel time).
What's the best way to get from Granada to Barcelona?
The only reason to visit the Lisbon area is to visit the small town of Sintra which is is really pretty. However with limited time, I would opt for Sevilla and Granada.
