Trying to help a friend do a Vatican Museum tour w/only one short day in Rome. On the Vatican website it says 'buy tickets & avoid the queue.' I see that you can specify a certain time, but does that really help eliminate the incredibly long lines you usually have to deal with? I'd understood from others that you'd have to pay much more for a private tour in order to get in quickly. Any recent experiences with this? Thanks.
