Does anyone have tips on where to stay near the train stations in Lille.

What sort of thing are you looking for? There are a couple of high rise Accor properties which we have used, very convenient, all the mod cons, no atmosphere.

Nothing fancy, but want something clean and safe and fairly close to the train for me and my son. We are just staying the night to see some sights on the way....

The two high rise Accors are a Novotel above the TGV station and a Suite Novotel (formerly a Suitehotel) across the street. I don't know of any other hotels in the stations area but I'm sure there are some. We stay at Lille often as we drive from home and as we have our car we usually stay at one of the Accors near the Autoroutes. We have gone into the centre of Lille and have also have a couple of nights at those high rises when changing trains. We haven't been much impressed by Lille. We don't stay there out of choice, we just need somewhere to sleep an hour or two the French side of the Channel, either going on holiday or on the way home.

I appreciate the feedback. It was a toss up as to whether to stay in Lille or Amiens as it is on the way...

It sounds like you have some good ideas for places to stay, but I just wanted to say that we loved Lille. The old town part is really fascinating and there are good places to eat and shop. They don't get many Americans, so they were generally friendly and helpful.

Thanks for the input! Did you stay in the older part of town? If so, where?
