I have a opporturnity to travel with my friend to Lille, France this October for 3 days while she attends a conference. I am seeking area location suggestions and hotel recommendations? Should I go or just stay in Brussels or Paris?
It's a border line decision. After a day and a half in Lille, you'll probably be looking for excursions outside the city or wander around repeating yourself. If you've completely exhuasted Brussels or Paris (hard to do either in two weeks) go for it. Continuing friendship is also a consideration -- I've suffered through some miserable places because of it.
Some folk love Lille. Not me. What I would do is take really easy and cheap daytrips to Bruges and Gent and Brussels. Enjoy!!!!
Count me in the "love Lille" column. We did a day trip from Lille to Bruges, so maybe you could fit that in. It's an easy city to navigate, with both an old and new section. There is lots of great shopping, if you like that and the people were all very nice. Six years ago they weren't getting many Americans, so they were very kind to us. We enjoyed the art museum, which is not the Louvre, but then not so over-whelming either. We stayed in two places in Lille, but that was six years ago, so I'd check out Trip Advisor for hotel suggestions.
