Light fare in Haarlem

My plane lands at Schiphol at 6:30 p.m. on a Saturday. I anticipate that I won’t be checked into my Haarlem hotel (Ambassador City Centre) till around 8:00 p.m., if not later. I’ll want dinner, but I won’t want anything heavy … maybe just a sandwich, salad, or pancake. Can anyone recommend a place (even a grocery store with a deli counter) within a couple blocks of the hotel where I can get something quick and light on a Saturday night?

I'm bumping this in the hopes that someone has a specific recommendation. :-)

Finding a takeaway type place in Haarlem after 6pm is a tall order. Most all stores will be closed for the day after 6pm; one of the reasons I don't like to stay overnight there. There will be plenty of restaurants open. I can't give you any specific recommendations, but Google maps has plenty listed in your hotel's neighborhood:

Thanks. I'm thinking maybe I should just grab something at Schiphol and then proceed to Haarlem.

I would just get yourself to Haarlem and go find a light dinner. There are a handful of places on the square on a Saturday night.

Hi, Teresa.

Yeah, late night food can be a challenge in Haarlem re shops. I believe there's a little shop in the train station that stays open. Most of the other shops are closed.

Your best bet for restaurants are the town square, Koningstraat, and Gedempte Oude Gracht. Lots of little places. I used to live there, but I can't think of one that's exceptionally better than the others. A small meal on the town square is really nice though.

There's a decent Indian place on Gedempte Oude Gracht, right off Koningstraat if that's your thing.

Thanks, everyone. Just to be clear in my own head, when y'all refer to "main square" or "town square," do you mean the Grote Markt?

If ya don't see the big cathedral at the end, you're in the wrong place... ;) It's pretty hard to miss! =)

How about hoping on the tram and coming to Amsterdam? I have been to AMS only once but Harleem didn't seem too far.
