My girlfriend and I would l like to attend Liechtenstein's "Independence Day" festival (15-Aug), namely the drink at the Prince's castle. Liechtenstein's website states it's a mid-day drink, but other sources have mentioned it as an evening event. Any insight as to how the day goes?
Its a day-event. There is a small bowl of lawn about 200ft x 200 ft accross from the castle, on the same road. They have speeches, schweizerdeutsch, in the morning. The residence part of the castle is Not open. There is a open, flat part just inside the walls where booths are set up for finger-food and FREEEEEE beer ,,allll you want. There is a small section of rampart you can walk, with views of Vaduz town,, and a small garden, beautiful flowers, plants, trees and such. What they refer to as an evening-event,,,is fireworks. Also after dark, is a custom they have of lighting bonfires wayyyyyyy up in the Alp mountains above the castle,,, after a dozen or so start up, its quite a sight. All this can easily be seen from the hotels in Vaduz. PS if you have an extra day,,,try to stay in one of the Triesenberg hotels. They have beautiful westerly views of the Swiss mountains and the Rhine river valley. Less expensive than Vaduz. Although car or public bus are the only access.
I think we're all impressed that someone knew the answer to this question. :)
