I'll probably be in Amsterdam on May 5 (Liberation Day). Are there usually special events? Will museums be open in Amsterdam and throughout The Netherlands? Do trains and buses maintain weekday schedules for this holiday? Thanks. Dave
The Dutch take Liberation Day very seriously. There will be a moment of silence (I think it's at 6:00 pm)to honor the lives lost during the war. It gives you an idea of how severe the toll of WW II was on the Netherlands. And the Dutch are very warm and welcoming to Americans as a result of the role we had in liberating them.
Enjoy.

Sticks in my mind that it's at 8:00 pm and coincides with the queen's laying a wreath in Dam Square; but I think it happens on Rememberance Day, which is the 4th, not the 5th.
The main Liberation Day stuff is down by the museums. Can't remember the exaxt name, but it's something like Bev(insert bunch of letters)festival.
It seems that the Remembrance service will be on May 4 at 8:00Pm at the Dam area. May 5 events seem less formal with happenings at Museumplein and other central locations. Museums around the city will be open. Thanks for the updates.
