Would you recommend staying at the Grand Hotel Leveque or Hotel Champ de Mars in Paris? We will be in Paris for 5 days in early March. Thanks!
Jessica,
We stayed at the Relais Bosquet -- across from Champ de Mars -- any of the places Rick mentions in Rue Cler are fine. The market is great and a good supermarket (US) is across the street - try the Cafe du marche on the corner. You can walk to the tower and take a 5 min bus ride to the Arc. Have a great time.

We've stayed at Rue Cler area and St. Germaine and much prefer the later.
We stayed at the Hotel Champ de Mars last August, and found it to be an excellent location. You are 1/2 block off of Rue Cler, which offers a wide variety of moderately priced restaurants. The rooms were small, but decorated in bright colors with large windows so they seemed larger. Everything was very clean and comfortable. We did not pay for their breakfast, but took our coffee at the Cafe du Marche (at the counter, to cut the price in half) and picked up pastries from the bakery on the opposite corner. Then headed to the Metro. All of this is steps from the front door of the Hotel Champ de Mars.
I can also recommend the company the Champ de Mars uses for airport transfers. Driver was on time and very friendly. It certainly beat hawling our bags through the metro, which we did upon arrival.
Enjoy your trip! You'll have a wonderful time no matter which hotel you choose.
We stayed at the Grand Hotel LeVeque. It was clean and easy to find, and the location was excellent. Street market every morning, Ulysses crepes across the street, Cafe du Marche on the corner, great little specialty shops, close to the Eiffel Tower and other sites --- everything we wanted.
The rooms, hallways, and elevator are TINY but we didn't spend a lot of time there. We didn't eat there either but the breakfast area seemed to be nicely appointed. The shuttle service to the airport was ... errr ... speedy.
While the hotel was perfectly fine, we will probably choose a different one next time or go with an apartment.
Our favorite is Champ de Mars with Leveque coming in a close second. I've also stayed at Beaugency and Relais Bosquet which are also nice; Relais Bosquet is especially nice and very comfortable but for the money, Champ de mars is great.
LOVED the Grand Hotel Leveque! Stayed there 3 years ago in early August (my family's first time in Paris) & it was a perfect location & everything Rick said it would be. Our fondest family memory was stopping for dessert at the little pastry shop on the Rue Cler one evening after dinner, coming back to the hotel to eat it & then sending our teenager back out to get more! It was the best!
