They've got the latest technology fibre optic telephone line system in Eastern Germany. So you should be able to just call her. But I actually found it. It's still somewhere hidden on the website of Deutsche Post: http://www.deutschepost.de/dpag?tab=1&skin=hi&check=yes&lang=de_EN&xmlFile=link1017135_1009407Keep in mind €18.35 converts to $28.67.

Thank you Andreas! I will use the telegram service, this is perfect! A telegram is perfect as she does not speak English and my German is not so great.
