I am considering traveling from Salzburg to Hallstatt and spending one night in Hallstatt. The next day, I would like to travel to Venice. Is there a good way to do that? Do I need to travel back to Salzburg or is there a quicker way? We may not have a car. Most likely we will be traveling by car or bus.
Looks like the fastest routes from Hallstatt to Venice go through Villach. You don't have to go back to Salzburg. The fastest route goes south out of Hallstatt to Stainach-Irdning, and then to Bischofshofen. I took this route last summer on my way to Hall.
The route through Attnang-Puchheim, Salzburg, and Bischofshofen is only slightly (15 min) slower. Although there is a lot of backtracking, it uses faster trains.
