Leaving Florence/Cinque Terre for France

Has anyone used the train from Florence or Cinque Terre area to go to France? Our intention is to work our way toward Paris from Italy.

Would love some help figuring out a reasonable way to do this please.

I am wondering what cities to stop off in on the way to Paris.

Should we go from Florence to Milan, then Milan to Lyon?
