We have a week in Switzerland in September. In order to maximize our visit, I am curious to know if it is still possible to leave bags in lockers at train stations or elsewhere so we don't have to carry anything with us while we are between hotels and out for a day's excursion?

We did this at the Interlaken Ost station last September so yes its possible

The only problem you might have is if the lockers are all already full. We encountered this once innLauterbrunnen. There was only one left and we had more bags than that. We just carried the rest to Interlaken and stashed it there, then picked it all up on the way back. Some reLy small stations, maybe including Mürren, do not have lockers.
