Does Le Train Bleu have a dress code?
Nope. That's why it's way the heck over-priced for low-to- mediocre grub. Odd, since it's pretty spiffy-looking inside, but wife-beater shirts and shower shoes are not unusual. Optionally, every once in a while you'll see a couple of guys in jackets, but probably not a tie. I assume you weren't planning on eating there, just curious about what people wear, right?
And they have the most uncomfortable straight-backed wooden chairs anywhere.
Le Train Bleu is part of a busy train station so formal dress is not required. The dressiest clients are probably businessmen and women straight from the office with train connections. They are far outnumbered by tourists of all stripes. The opulence of the decor and the old-fashioned efficiency of the waitstaff make up for the ordinary food, in my eyes -- although they did present the biggest cheese platter I've ever seen and identified each nibble exactly.
Thanks! The large cheese plate has won me over!
No. Think of it as a "Hard Rock Cafe" of the 1890s... except all glamour is gone. The place is crap IMHO. Visited once, will never dare to set foot again. Overpriced, mediocre food. It is only worth as a decadent lunchroom for those who like it.
I concur with the negative opinions. I haven't eaten there but the prices on the menu and it's totally mediocre reputation was enough to put me off. If you really want to experience it, maybe you can get a coffee inside or something, but there are so many better options to spend your money on in Paris than that place.
When we were young and poor I used to stand in the doorway and dream of being able to have a meal there. From what others have said, it sounds like the dream is over...there's still L'Europeen Brasserie across the street from the station.
