We are planning to spend a couple days in Paris after our cruise which ends in Dover England. It seems like we would be saving allot of transportation time by getting off the ship in Le Havre, France which is our last port of call. And would give us more time in Paris, too. Suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
Not sure what suggestions you are looking for. What to do in Paris? Where to stay? How to get there? Can you tell us?
If you're able to depart the cruise in Le Havre without hassle that would make much more sense. If you take the cruise to Dover, you just have to turn around and cross the Channel again to get back to Paris. Taking a train from Le Havre to Paris would be save both time and money (and as you stated give you a little more time in Paris) so it seems like the better option.
Thank you. Hopefully we can work this out to get off in Le Havre to save some travel time to Paris.
Direct trains run from Le Havre to Paris Saint Lazare every couple of hours and the journey takes a little over 2 hours. The walk-up cost on the day is €33.50, but if you book in advance you can get them for as little as €15. These are Intercités trains, so you can print your own ticket at home if your plans are firm enough to book in advance. See http://en.voyages-sncf.com/ and specify your ticket collection country as France (so you aren't redirected to the US re-seller).
You can get off a cruise ship before its last stop, but you do have to arrange this in advance. Contact your cruise line for details.
