Layover in Madrid - long enough?

I'm contemplating booking a flight from Granada, Spain back to Chicago that has a connection in Madrid with a layover of 1 hr, 5 min. I feel like that is likely too short a layover, particularly when making a connection back to the states. Is my gut reaction correct or would you go for it?

It would depend a little bit on time of day and year. Second is it a one ticket flight or is it too individual tickets. If it is two tickets then it is probably too tight since the consequences of missing the second flight would be severe.

It would be Easter Sunday (April 4, 2010) - and it is 1 ticket, ticketed by American buy operated by Iberia.

If it's ticketed by AA, but on Iberia.. who has the flight from Mad to Chicago. If it's Iberia, then "maybe". If it's AA, I think you have to change terminals.

And it's a commute between the Iberia terminal and the international terminal. The bus I took got back on the "highway", I felt like I was going to the next city.

If you are changing terminals, then don't try this!

If you're flying non-stop Chicago-Madrid, or via JFK or Boston, then it's Iberia. If you're going thru Miami or Dallas, then it's American. In either case, they both used Terminal 4 or the satellite, 4S...they're connected by a little underground people-mover train line. A 1:05 transfer period may be a little tight, since you might have to travel the little train to the main terminal 4, go thru security again, then go thru immigration. I'd see if I could stretch it out a bit.
