Hello everyone, My husband and I will be travelling to Interlaken during first week of April. Is this a really bad time to visit Lauterbrunnen/Gimmelwald/Wengen? Can we atleast visit the Trummelbach falls and maybe go to Wengen if weather permits? I know it is kind of late to ask these questions, but better late than never :) Your inputs will be greatly appreciated!
Sarita.
I went in the middle of May (2010) to Murren and the weather was very disappointing. The towns were pretty much deserted and it was so cloudy and foggy that many of the great views were spoiled. It seems like a great area, but I would go back between June and September if I had my druthers.
I just checked to see if some of the hotels are open in April. The one we usually stay at is open, however, they are closed in May. April may be the end of their ski season and May is their shoulder season. You might be able to check each town's weather on their website using www.muerren.ch Have fun on your trip.
Thanks James. That sounds bad. Maybe we should just stick to Interlaken and the valley in general then. How was Lauterbrunnen in May? I was browsing thru weather.com and it says right now the temperature in Lauterbrunnen is 52-53F.
Quite frankly, April is the worst month in this area. Too warm to ski, too wet and muddy to hike (not to mention all the "natural" fertilizer that the workers spray on the pastures with power hoses), foggy, and most of the businesses shut down. Get your Alpine thrills elsewhere in April.
