We're looking for a place to spend 1 night between Paris and Interlaken to split up the long train trip, also to see the chateau and maybe enjoy a boat ride on the lake. Which city would you recommend and are there any specific hotels you would recommend?
Hotels in Montreux are all along the the very scenic Lake Geneva, but are very expensive, they cater to the jet-set. Lausanne has more affordable hotels but of course you won't get as good a view. Lausanne is very near Montreux, so it's only a few minutes away by train or an hour away via the lake steamer boats.
Bryan,
Sion is a beautiful town with hotels much less expensive. Check it out on the Internet. Happy Travels.... p.
Lausanne is a bigger place - so maybe more choices. Montreaux has the big jazz festival so they may be more expensive fancy hotels - but its all so close any place along the lake is great! and near the vinyards too. Sion is nice too. If you like more history old town type stuff - Lausanne has probably more (and one of the biggest cathedrals - if not the biggest - in CH). Check out the swiss tourist website too.
