What are the gals wearing these days in Spain?
Well, I'm certainly not a fashionista, but here goes...
Last summer I spent about two months walking across northern Spain on the Camino Frances pilgrimage trail (from St. Jean Pied-de-Port in France to Santiago, Spain, around 500 miles). I saw and hung out with many Spanish men and women throughout that region.
The one item of dress that stands out to me is the large fashion sunglasses many women wore, with big frames and a lens hue that was darker on top and lighter on the bottom (a graduated fade, I guess).
Other than that, they wore fashionable jeans, capris, tank tops, those waist-hugging blouses with the tight, short shoulders, khaki pants/shorts, fashion-type T-shirts, yoga pants, and so on. Shoes varied, of course.
A male Spanish friend I spent time with in Leon told me that Spanish women knew how to dress to attract attention. A Spanish women in her 50s said that Spanish women had the right balance of fashion & practicality (vs. French and Italian women).
...part dos, continuing from my first post.
I thought the Spanish women carried themselves well regardless of what they wore - attitude can make or break any fashion statement.
Bottom line, Spain is one of my favorite European countries, and I look forward to my next visit there.
Anyway, hope this helps - good luck on your next trip!
I was in Madrid and Toledo in March. Spanish women were so elegant--lots of earth tones and well tailored clothes.
The hardest part about asking this question is that in the US, you are unable to find good clothes at reasonable prices that actually look chic.
I want to know the style of jeans they are wearing, what type of handbags and/or accessories that are "in" now! I do not wear capri pants with sneakers..or loud prints..even here in the USA!
I would say the styles are EXACTLTY the same as in WA. Depending on your personal taste whatever style you wear in WA would be just fine about anywhere in Europe. Unless you are 60 and wear low riders and boob tubes you should be okay, seriously! In Barcelona 3 wks. ago women were wearing clunky lucite jewelry, oversize fake stone rings and big hoop earrings. I saw lots of Prada purses, don't know for sure if they were knockoffs. Shoes were all sorts, Ugg boots, leather boots with stiletto heels, sandals with chunky heels, skinny spike heels.....They have access to the Internet in Spain so they can buy stuff from any part of the world. They also have most of the same brands of clothes and shoes as the US so unless you ID someone who knows if they are Spanish or not.Go to El Corte Ingles website, that is their #1 shopping store, not a Harrod's or Barneys but higher end not a Walmart or Kmart.
This might give you some Insight:

Mango is a very well known brand in Spain, and now has a fairly big international division.
Just came across this website that might offer some insight into spring fashion in Madrid.

Scroll about halfway down the page and you'll come to a section about spring fashions in Spain.
You might see people wearing casual clothes like jeans and t-shirts, and elegant clothes as well. European clothes look different than the ones here. T-shirts have a design and less words, jeans might have studs or other thing on it, different fitting. I have never seen in Europe pants with elastic on the side, or moo-moo dresses, nor grandma jeans.
