Late October travel in France

I plan to travel in France in late October. We will spend 5 days in Paris and then venture afar. Please recommend a region for that time of year. We are first time Frence visitors.

How long are you going? Have you picked up the RS's France book? Do you have an area of interest: DDay beaches, art, history, food, wine, landscape, architech, French Alps, etc.

Burgundy. You'll be there at the end of the grape harvest and the hills should still be golden.

Welcome to France Janet! Another vote for Burgundy. Dijon is a great base to explore the area (Beaune is only 45km South with all the famous vineyards between Dijon and Beaune, Vezelay, Chablis in the North) Dijon itself is a great town with lot to see; history, museums, lovely buildings, charming streets, great restaurants, good transport network, nice people :-) You can pm me if you want to know more. Happy travels!

I love Burgundy too. But last year we were there in late October and experienced many days of rain. I would recommend Provence as the weather may be somewhat warmer and you can still experience the fall colors in the vineyards. Try Vaision la Romaine or Arle for a great home base.

You said 5 days in Paris. How many more days do you have?
I worked the driving tour circle from the RS guidebooks and hit nearly everything but that takes about two weeks. What do you want to see? Chateau - go to the Loire Valley. Cave paintings - Sarlat regions. Burgundy is close to Paris - Beaune in lovely anytime of year! Bordeau is farther - you'll need a car to see the wineries! War history - the coast from Normandy to Verdun. It's all up to your interests! And it's all a lovely adventure!
