Late August in Paris

We'll be in Paris the last week in August. Do we need to book a hotel with air-conditioning? Any suggestions? We wish to not go above 150 euros per night, if possible. We will splurge if it is worth it.

Don't worry about air conditioning as long as you can be sure the temperatures will be in the 70s.

If you were asking about Italy in August, it would be a no-brainer, you'd want a room with AC. But Paris usually has moderate temps, even in August: the average temps for August are low of 58 (at night) and high of 75 (late afternoon). Now there are no guarantees, obviously--those are just averages, there can be some hot days in the summer. You don't need to spend €150 to get a good hotel in Paris, but if you're inclined to spend that much, for that kind of money you can get a room with AC, just in case.

I've been in Paris in summer when the temperatures were always low/mid 70's and very comfortable. I've also been in Paris in summer when the temperatures soared to 89F. It was sweltering. I was glad I had a hotel with AC!

It is impossible to predict temps. I would probably try to get a place with A/C and hope you don't need it. I was in Paris in August 2006 and didn't need to use the A/C. Two weeks before we arrived there they were experiencing a heat wave where people were dying from the heat. We were in Germany during that heat wave with no A/C and trying to sleep was miserable.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. We will probably go with AC because the worse thing when traveling is lack of sleep.

Go for the air conditioning. I was there the first week of September a few years ago and was miserable at night due to the heat.

I never go without a/c in Paris. I have only encountered cooler weather once in many trips,, so yes, it could be cool enough to skip it, BUT, I have encountered sweltering( to me) weather in July and August many times. I also note that keeping window open for "breezes"( not that I noted any) is not practical in many cases if you are a light sleeper because of street noise.

You are from Texus, and I understand it is very hot there, so perhaps for you it will be fine, but I can't stand coming in from a long day walking around i in what I consider extreme heat,, ( anything over 80 is hot to me) to a hot room. I need a/c.

I have almost always found a hotel with a/c for under 150 euros so it is doable. Look NOW for deals. I paid 118 euros for room with breakfast and a/c this past summer, Hotel Des Grande Hommes, rooms there normally are alot more!!
