Lake Lugano Lodging

We have two adults and two teenage girls. Any ideas on a Lake Lugano area hotel or pension that would have a multi room suite. I see the 4 person on two double bed "family rooms" but some privacy would be nice on a romantic trip.

Charles, I assume you're referring to the city of Lugano? If that's the case, you might have a look at This Hotel. It's very comfortable and the staff are great. They do have four-bed family rooms, however (depending on your budget), you could also book two double rooms to provide the "privacy" you're looking for. The girls may be happier having their own room, and that would also provide another WC (which may be a concern if travelling with three girsl). Happy travels!

Multi room suites I believe are rare. You could try for 2 double rooms. We stayed at Hotel Pestalozzi central & 2 block walk from lake incl big buffet brfast and air cond & elevator. Well priced and xtra clean

Charles Heading to Lugano in October and did some research on Hotels - even though we are only a 2 some. Please check out W du Lac Hotel- right on the water with all rooms with views. I believe they do have larger rooms for families and they have reasonable rates for Switzerland. They only serve breakfast so you would have to look for places for dinner. We are there only 1 night so will not be able to partake in the hiking - maybe just a cruise on the lake.

If they are teens, most Swiss hotels would be happy to give them their own room, close to yours but not necessarily connected as a suite. This place, right on the lake in the little suburb of Castagnola, looks very romantic and does have a 2-room suite, but they don't describe the bedding set-up. They also offer double rooms if that works better. http://www.elvezialago.ch/EN/en_01.htm

Thanks, those are some great ideas! Has anyone tried going by train from Lugano to Lake Como?

Charles, I haven't taken the train from Lugano to Lake Como, but it appears to be a relatively easy 35 minute trip to Como S. Giovanni station. It would help to have some idea on where you plan on going on Lago di Como? If you're planning to visit towns along the lake, you'll have to make the short trip from Como S. Giovanni to the boat docks.

We drove from Lugano to Lake Cuomo. It is a pretty easy trip.

Charles Sorry - Just read my Post the hotel in Lugano is Walter du Lac. Also we were going to go to Lake Como by train, but have opted to take the bus from Lugano to Menaggio 1 hr. where we pick up the ferry to Varenna.
Depending on where you want to stay on the lake besides Como this is another option.

We stayed at the Hotel Dante Center and loved the hotel. We just got off the train, hopped a very short funicular and went down the hill. The hotel was to the right of where we got off the funicular. We stayed in Lugano for five nights. One day we went to Milan for the day by train. Another day we took the train to Lake Como. Another day we took the train to Lake Magiorre. Then when we left, we took the Bernina Express out of Lugano and ended up in Zurich at the end of the day.

We recently stayed in Lugano in Hotel Walter Au lac. Very spacious rooms - older style accommodation, but very clean. Absolutely top spot right on the lake and for Switzerland, very reasonably priced. We had a room with a balcony. We loved our 4 day stay there.
