Laimer Hof am Schloss Nymphenburg recommendation

Has anyone stayed at this hotel? Is it too far from the city center? Bike rental is free which is appealing, is it possible to bike into town? Any other Munich hotel suggestions? Hotel Uhland and Hotel Monaco and many of the frequently recommended hotels are booked. Six adults will be traveling in early June.

Looking at the map of Munich, it's not very far from Laimerhof to the tram stop at Romansplatz, just south of the Nymphenburg entrance. From there you can take the streetcar (Tram 17) to the stop on the north side of the Hauptbahnhof. That streetcar then stops at Karlstor (Stachus) and goes around the south side of the old town to Isartor, east of Marienplatz.

We stayed there in 2009 and loved it. Wonderful breakfast and great owners and staff. Owners are young - Sebastian (owner) lived in the Detroit area as an exchange student for his last year of high school. They speak excellent English as do all of his desk staff. We took trams (can buy a day pass for several adults...with 6 you might have to buy 2) and it is a short walk. (if returning after dark, make note of where your your street is when you board during the day...as several streets/trams converge there and at night you might become a little confused) The hotel is located in a residential area....post office nearby and restaurants. While we were there a couple from Australia were there with two of their children...one child had a fever and Sebastian's wife called their pediatrician and made an appointment for them. Just wonderful people!

Slight disagreement. I haven't stayed at this hotel, but I did stay at a hostel at the same strassenbahn (tram) stop. I felt it was a bit further away from the center of things than I would have liked, and thought the tram was rather slow and infrequent. If it were me I would prefer to try to stay closer to the Hauptbahnhof area. That area isn't particularly lovely and can be a little seedy (not dangerous, though) but it's so convenient and there are a ton of good, affordable hotels there. I enjoyed the Hotel Eder and would eat my hat if it was booked up in advance for June.
