Lagrasse

A friend and I are spending a week in Lagrasse in October. Any suggestions for day trips?

Hi Carole, My daughter and I spent a week in Lagrasse last October so I can share my experience. First of all, Lagrasse is lovely and the Abbey is especially lovely. Just walking around the town and around the river will fill a day. Our gite was right beside the 13th century market in the town and we found several really nice shops. There is limited grocery shopping in Lagrasse but the drive back to the interstate was lovely and the town at the interstate (I can't remember the name) has two large supermarkets. We drove to Collioure one day and I highly recommend that. Of course, we did the obligatory trip to Carcassonne. We also spent a morning at the Carcassone market and I really enjoyed that. I also enjoyed driving through the region seeing the vineyards and scenery. My daughter became ill while we were there, so we stayed close to Lagrasse more than I would have liked. If I were to do it again, I would definitely drive to at least one of the Cathar castles and more of the small towns in the area - especially Minerve and Mirepoix. Lagrasse was really quiet and fairly cold while we were there - so be sure to pack warm clothes. If you have other questions, feel free to ask.
