I am traveling from Germany to Brugge (past Brussels and Ghent) in a couple of weeks and I am interested in purchasing a Christening gown with Belgian lace. Does anyone have a suggestion where I can go that won't break the bank? Thanks!
The hand made lace is very expensive. You might want to go to the lace museum (it's listed in RS). It's fun to watch the ladies with their bobbins. The museum may be able to direct to places that sell handmade lace. There are shops selling items with lace all over town, but much of it is machine made - affordable to most - rather than hand made.
Brugge is very small, and there are SO MANY lace shops! If you will be there for a day or two, you will have time to explore many shops to find what you are looking for. IRMA is one very nice shop where I bought some beautiful handmade lace. www.irma.be
You can look at lace at one shop...go next door and have wonderful Belgian chocolate (Dumon's is sublime!)...go next door and look at more lace, etc., etc.
Happy Hunting!
I recall seeing several lace shops on the street that connects the Grote Markt to the Burg, Breidelstraat.
